| Information About Post Secondary Enrollment Options | | | | Click here to download a PSEO Registration Form | The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Act was signed
into law as part of the 1985 Omnibus School Aids Bill. It allows high
school students to attend a technical college, 2 year or 4 year
colleges, either full or part time, at no cost to the student. The Act
has a dual purpose: (l) to promote rigorous educational pursuits and
(2) to provide a variety of options for students. Any 11th or 12th
grade public school student may enroll in non-sectarian courses at an
eligible institution. Eligible institutions include any Minnesota
public post-secondary institution, including Technical Colleges, or a
Minnesota two-year/four year liberal arts residential degree-granting
private institutions. Students have a total of two years of eligibility
for PSEO beginning with the 11th grade. Generally a student should be
in the top one third of their class to enroll in a 4-year college or
university and the top one half for a community college. Specific
requirements will vary from school to school. Classes considered
remedial are not covered under The PSEO Act. Students interested in
this program or who want additional information should contact their
counselor well in advance of their expected enrollment. Students will
then apply directly to the individual school. The programs or courses
will be regular post-secondary offerings and students will be expected
to successfully complete the same work as their post-secondary "peers."
Courses completed under PSEO become part of the students permanent
record and are used in determining grade point average and class rank.
Points to remember: 1. Talk to your high school counselor early to get information on how the process gets started in your school.
2.
You cannot complete the entire registration at your home school. Each

for applications, make an appointment, get a copy of your transcript,
and a PSEO form, submit the proper paperwork, and talk with your
counselor who will help you with information and making sure it all
connects together with your schedule of classes and what credit
requirements will be fulfilled. PSEO is not just an excuse to get out
of the building. The grades you earn become part of your permanent
record. You will need parental permission if you are under 18. It's not
hard to to get involved with PSEO. It just takes planning and following
directions.
3. Get started early since there are early
deadlines. You cannot get everything that needs to be done completed in
one day. Sit down with your parents, counselor, teachers, look at your
options and make a decision. By planning ahead you will not get caught
in a time crunch. Remember that the schools you apply to may not have
the same calendar or school day as Saint Paul. Most students attend
school in the morning and PSEO in the afternnoon. Some exceptions are
possible if the timing or location is right. If you want to take
advantage of the PSEO Program plan at least a semester or more ahead.
